Preface: The rise of type 2 diabetes (T2D) worldwide in children is seriously alarming. The adjusted incidence of T2D among children and adolescents nearly doubled, from 9.0 to 17.9 cases per 100 000 persons per year, from 2002-03 to 2017-18. For the first time, the incidence of T2D has surpassed that of type 1 diabetes (T1D).
